Every one of the 37 Menu Design Suite themes has a named human reviewer, a cuisine tradition that inspired it, and a date it landed. Canva can't say the same; their themes are anonymous and stock.
How to read this
Each theme has a small record: palette, typography, compatible papers, the cuisine hints that fire its auto-selection in the editor. Expand the record to read the theme story and the list of cuisine traditions that inspired it.
The "Inspired by" field describes genres, traditions, cuisine cultures — never a specific business. If you're an operator and want to be credited as an explicit inspiration for a theme, email don@muntin.digital.
A daypart-aware theme. The same café has a different menu at 8am vs 2pm; this layout handles the breakfast/lunch split with section breaks instead of separate menus.

For the pizza shop that needs the slice prices to be readable from across the room AND the whole pies legible up close. Two-column, big-headline display, two-tier pricing built in.

For when the menu IS the signage. Bebas Neue condensed display, deep amber accent (passes 3:1 against white), monospaced prices. Reads from across the parking lot.

Cocoa accent on flour-cream paper. Two columns because pastries + coffee drinks both deserve density. Hand-rule dividers because handwritten menus are bakery convention.
Bright cream + warm orange. Designed to be scribbled on with a crayon — the heavy-weight paper variants in this theme list are deliberately scribble-resistant.

Gloss white + retro red, condensed signpainter caps. For the operator hand-cutting pastrami at the counter who needs the menu to read like a pastrami counter, not a generic restaurant.

Monospaced columns mean the price column lines up perfectly without leader dots — exactly what an above-counter pricing card needs. No ornament; the grid IS the typography.

Cream stock, serif body, hand-drawn rules. Neighborhood Italian energy.

Theme story
The first theme. Built for the kind of family Italian place where the menu is a single page printed on cream stock, the prices are leader-dotted, and the section names are in small caps. Conservative on purpose — meant to look like it has been there for thirty years.
Inspired by:
Neighborhood Italian shops in the DMV — the ones with red checkered tablecloths and a specials board in chalk
Two columns, ornament dividers, the "old-world serif on warm white" thing. For places that specifically want to telegraph "we do steak frites and proper plats du jour."
Inspired by:
Parisian brasseries (Brasserie Lipp, Le Bouillon Chartier)
Bone stock, burgundy accent, Playfair display. Quiet bistro confidence.

Theme story
Lighter than brasserie. For modern bistros where the menu is shorter, the wine list is longer, and the chalkboard daily-specials section is the actual hero.
Sharing-plate menus run dense — three columns of small dishes that reward dense pricing. The olive-cream paper is a nod to halloumi-and-olives, the terracotta accent to clay tagines.
Saffron cream paper, indigo accent, eight-pointed star mark.

Theme story
Saffron-cream paper, indigo accent, eight-pointed star (girih / khatam) motif. A theme operators of high-end Persian restaurants asked for; previously they were defaulting to brasserie or modern-minimal which miss the cultural register.

Hotel F&B in-room. Cream + navy + brass, two-column with time tags.

Theme story
Cream paper with navy ink and brass accent. Generous descPt because room-service descriptions tend to be longer and more genteel. Time-window tags ("served 6–11am") rendered through the existing availability field.
Generous whitespace, no rules, tab-aligned prices. Quiet bistro confidence.
