Muntin Open Data

Open data

Every wholesale price reference we publish, the seasonal normals behind them, the market events that moved them, and the yields that turn them into plate cost — free, downloadable, and honestly sourced from public USDA, BLS and FRED data. No login. No model guessing. Just the numbers and how we got them.

The datasets

Four surfaces, one posture: every figure traces to public data and downloads in open formats.

Cost Index

81 ingredients live · 231 tracked

Where common restaurant ingredients are priced wholesale — a typical range and a trend, from public sources.

Seasonality

12-month normals · 84 ingredients

When each ingredient is cheapest — and where the calendar barely matters. Derived from the deep public history.

Market events

39 documented events

Supply shocks and their price co-occurrence — framed as association, never as cause.

Ingredient yields

118 edible yields

Turn a wholesale pound into plate cost — the edible portion of each ingredient.

How this stays honest

A number publishes only when a real wholesale dollar level from a public source clears the bar, corroborated by a second — never an index with no level, never a single unverified quote. If it does not clear the bar, the page says so instead of inventing a figure.

Movement is framed as co-occurrence, not cause: we show a price moved alongside a driver, not that the driver caused it. And every figure is a deterministic re-derivation of the public record — you can rebuild it from the same source.
