When to use it

Pull this sheet out when —

  • Day one of every new hire — front-of-house, back-of-house, host, dishwasher, all of them.
  • When promoting from within — onboard them into the new role, do not assume they have it.
  • Back-to-back with the orientation packet — the checklist is the proof of completion.
Common mistakes

What operators get wrong

  • Confusing this with HR onboarding. This is operational only — no I-9, no W-4, no state new-hire reporting.
  • Skipping the manager-on-duty intro. The new hire needs to know who to ask before service starts.
  • Treating the trail shifts as informal. Schedule them, log them, debrief after each.
