Right after claiming a new GBP — work the full list before going live.
Monthly per the L16 hours-check rhythm — re-verify name/address/phone/hours.
After any operations change that affects what's true on the GBP.

Common mistakes

What operators get wrong

Claiming the GBP and then leaving the categories at the default 'Restaurant.' Pick the most specific category Google offers.
Skipping the attributes section ('outdoor seating,' 'wheelchair accessible,' 'serves vegetarian'). These drive filtered searches.
Letting Google's auto-suggested edits go unmoderated. They show up in your dashboard; review weekly.
